Drink Well. Drink Wise. Drink from Copper.
A copper tumbler is more than everyday drinkware. It is part of a long-standing Indian practice of storing water in copper vessels and drinking it after a few hours or overnight. Many people choose a copper glass not only for its traditional value, but also for the simple habit of mindful hydration.
The Zishta Copper Tumbler with Lid is handcrafted by Maharashtra artisans using the traditional tambat freehand beating technique.
The lid helps keep stored water protected from dust, insects, and open-air exposure. This makes it useful for bedside water storage, office desks, and daily use at home.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I drink from a copper glass rather than a steel or glass tumbler?
Copper is a living metal. Unlike steel or glass, it actively interacts with water stored in it - killing harmful bacteria, balancing the water's pH, and infusing it with trace copper ions beneficial to your body. Steel and glass simply store water; copper transforms it.
2. Why does this glass come with a lid?
The lid serves an important purpose: it keeps the water covered while it rests overnight or for a few hours, preventing dust, insects, and airborne contaminants from entering. It also helps preserve the clean, copper-infused quality of the water until you are ready to drink.
3. How long should I store water in the copper glass before drinking?
A minimum of 3 hours is needed for copper to begin its antimicrobial action. Overnight storage (8 hours) is ideal - this is the traditional practice recommended in Ayurveda. Drink it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
4. Is it safe to drink from copper every day?
Yes, when used correctly. The WHO recommends a daily copper intake of 1–1.3 mg for adults. Water stored in a pure copper vessel for up to 8 hours leaches only trace amounts of copper, well within safe limits. Using one copper glass of water per day is the recommended practice - do not store water for more than 24 hours.
5. Can I use this glass for hot tea, coffee, or other liquids?
No. This glass is designed for water storage only. Hot liquids accelerate copper leaching beyond safe levels. Acidic liquids like lemon water, buttermilk, juices, or alcohol should also not be stored in copper as they react with the metal.
6. My glass is turning dark or black on the outside. Is something wrong?
Not at all. Darkening on the outside is natural oxidation (called patina) and is completely harmless. It is a sign of pure, uncoated copper. Simply rub the glass with a piece of lemon or tamarind to restore its warm, golden lustre.
7. I see a greenish residue inside the glass. Is this dangerous? Green or bluish-green residue inside the vessel is copper carbonate, which can form when the glass is not cleaned regularly or is left with standing water for too long. Do not use the glass until it is completely cleaned - wash thoroughly with lemon and salt. This is why regular cleaning after every use is important.
8. What is the tambat freehand beating technique?
It is a centuries-old coppersmithing craft practised by the Tambat artisan community of Maharashtra. The artisan shapes copper entirely by hand using a hammer, without any moulds or machinery. This gives each piece a distinctive, slightly textured character - and means no two glasses are exactly alike. The Tambat craft lineage dates back to the days of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
9. How is this different from mass-produced copper glasses available elsewhere? Most copper products sold commercially are machine-pressed from copper sheets, often using scrap metal or mixed alloys. Zishta's copper glass is made from virgin copper, handbeaten by traditional artisans, and tested in an NABL-accredited laboratory for purity. You are not buying a commodity - you are buying a piece of living craft.
10. Will the glass look exactly like the product photo?
Close, but not identical - and that is intentional. Because every piece is handcrafted individually, slight variations in texture, finish, and dimensions are natural. Each variation is a mark of authenticity. If you receive a perfectly uniform glass, it is machine-made. Yours will be unique.
11. How do I clean the glass without damaging it?
Use mild soap or plain water and a soft cloth or sponge. For shine, use lemon or tamarind. Never use steel wool, harsh scrubbers, or abrasive chemical cleaners. Never put it in the dishwasher - the heat and detergents damage the copper.

Frequently asked Queries
Get your queries answered fast!
Do we need Kalai to store water?
As water is not acidic, we do not need kalai to store water in copper
What is black spotting on copper?
Good quality (non-coated) copper will oxidise when in contact with water or air. This results in the black/dark shade spotting. Washing it with tamarind or lime skin removes the spotting
What is the green formation in unclean copper?
This is called Patina. It is not safe to consume water from copper pots which has lots of patina. Scrub and clean copper with tamarind or lime skin once in 3-4 days
