The Handi, a timeless pot-shaped utensil, has been a cornerstone of slow cooking for centuries, imparting dishes with a unique flavor and aroma that modern cookware can't replicate. From the fragrant layers of biryani and hearty khichdi to comforting pulao, pongal, and rich gravies, the handi is a versatile must-have for any traditional kitchen.
Our journey to revive India’s artisanal crafts led us to a village near Amritsar, home to the renowned thatheras, masters of brass and copper utensils making. This ancient craft, celebrated on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage, has sadly dwindled-from 400 families practicing it to just 15 today.
Brass cookware, like the handi, is not only steeped in tradition but also health benefits. It preserves over 90% of the nutrients in your food and retains heat to keep meals warm for hours. Cooking in brass also helps maintain the natural antioxidants of the ingredients, making every meal both flavorful and nourishing.
Add a touch of heritage and health to your cooking with a brass handi, crafted with care by artisans keeping centuries-old traditions alive.
