These traditional maakal containers are used to make the tastiest & thick curd. Curd sets within 4-5 hours as soapstone retains heat.

Caution: If you are using the Containers for storing pickle, the same has to be seasoned for few days with castor oil & Turmeric to seal the pores. This will prevent the oil from pickle to leak through the pores.

How are soapstone containers made?
First a block of soapstone is mined and chiseled to specific sizes. Then the same is worked either on a lathe or by hand using chisel to carve out a container. The same process is delicately followed to make the lids.
Do we have to season soapstone storage containers?
They do not need seasoning as they are not kept on gas burner.
Pickle Storing: Apply castor oil + turmeric mixture on the inside of container, allow it to soak for a day, then wash and store pickle.
How to use Soapstone Container?
You can use it to:
- Set Curd
- Store tamarind, salt or other spices
- Store pickle
Can we refrigerate these soapstone (Maakal) containers?
Yes.. the containers can be kept in refrigerator. They may be heavy, so place them in the bottom most shelf.
How to clean soapstone?
You can use mild soap diluted in water to clean soapstone. In order to prevent the curd smell, you can soak them in hot water to clean the pores.
